Cicely LaMothe, the SEC's deputy director of Corporation Finance and a key architect of the agency's crypto regulatory framework, will retire following a 24-year tenure. Her December 29 statement noted the work was "challenging yet rewarding," particularly referencing her oversight of critical crypto policy decisions.

LaMothe recently served as acting division leader until September 2025, during which she authored landmark staff interpretations - including the meme coin non-security determination and staking guidance.
